
The Chennai income-tax department has shot off a letter to the Praja Rajyam chief, Chiranjeevi, seeking information on his objections to providing information about his tax payments under the Right to Information Act.The former MLA and chairman of the APSRTC, Mr Gone Prakash Rao, has sought details of the income-tax paid by Chiranjeevi under the RTI Act. According to the provisions of the Act, the Income-Tax department cannot directly provide any such information concerning an individual without seeking his approval.Based on the letter by Mr Prakash Rao, the central public information officer of the deputy commissioner of income-tax, Chennai, wrote a letter to Chiranjeevi on January 13 giving a week’s time to state the objections on furnishing the details sought by the appealent.Mr Rao, in his application, has mentioned that Chiranjeevi while addressing a meeting in Visakhapatnam on October 15, 2008, said his income and expenditure and other financial activities are just like an open book and anyone can know the details.Mr Rao wanted to know from Chiranjeevi whether he is going to keep up his promise of furnishing the details as sought by him or raise objections.
