The Election Commission on Thursday said more than 80 percent electors would use photo identity cards to cast their votes in the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls. "More than Eighty percent electors have photo identity cards issued by the Election Commission across the country. Over 90 percent electors have been issued voters cards with photographs in fourteen states and 90 percent electors have their photographs printed in the electoral rolls in 13 states," the Election Commission said in a release.
"This will facilitate easy identification and prevent impersonation," the poll panel said. For the first time, photo electoral rolls will be used for polling in the entire country except the three states of Assam, Nagaland and Jammu and Kashmir in forthcoming general election.
