Tarun's Pub ON

Despite the recessional tendencies in the country and various news that businesses are not really doing great actor, Tarun has made a bold decision to open his own Pub called ON. The pub on the Jubliee Hills Banjara Hills road is supposed to be trendy in which the young crowd of the city could hang around.
Great going from the young actor who seems to have decided to turn entrepreneur at the young age, also one should appreciate the young man who unlike his contemporaries like Raja has decided to stay away from politics and is staying on course with film and business ventures.
Best of luck for the actor for the new venture!!

In remarks that may ruffle some feathers, Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa on Thursday said that he would not allow growth of "pub culture" in the state but made it clear that people taking law into their hands will be dealt with firmly.
He also said that he will discuss the issue of banning Sri Ram Sene, the outfit accused in the pub attack case, in the state cabinet."We won't allow this pub culture in Karnataka to grow. But on the other hand, those who take law in their hand will be dealt with very firmly," he told TV channels.

His remarks came even as Sene chief and an accused in the pub case Pramod Muthalik reminded the BJP that they formed the government in Karnataka on the Hindutva plank and asked the party not to sacrifice Hindu organisations for the sake of expediency.Yeddyurappa claimed that Sene has no connection with BJP. "That's an individual organisation," he said.

Replying to a question on the issue of banning Sene, he said, "We will discuss it with the police officers and I will discuss it with the cabinet."The police, he said, were also exploring the possibility of invoking the stringent Goonda Act against the pub case accused."Anyhow, we are not going to allow such incidents to happen again in the state.

Nobody should take law into their hands and it is a very unfortunate incident. That is why I have taken immediate action and the situation is under control," he said.

The expensive Shriya

Kanthaswamy was almost complete except for a song. Recently, the crew was at Italy shooting a song sequence featuring Vikram and Shriya. This song sequence witnessed Shriya adorned with a costume worth a jaw dropping amount of Rs. 26 lakhs. Lo behold, this is not the end. She was wearing diamond jewelry costing a whopping Rs. 6 crores.
It was reported that the hiring charge alone for the jewels was Rs. 5 lakhs per day. The crew was heard saying that they had canned the film in places in Italy which has not been visited hitherto by any film team. Kanthaswamy, directed by Susi Ganesan and produced by Thanu, is turning out to be a very expensive project indeed.

Rajinikanth’s Sultan - Releasing This April 14th

Rajinikanth daughter’s dream project ‘Sultan The Warrior’ is making its way to the screens soon. It is slated for release this 14th of April and mind you this is the first ever Indian 3D animation movie.
Even though it is sort of a cartoon, the voices are all real one of them being of course Rajinikanth’s voice. The ladylove for this movie is done by Vijayalakshmi. Not really the kind of heroine that pops to your mind once you hear the name. For those of you that don’t know her, she acted in the movie ‘Chennai 60028′. Remember the song ‘Yaaro Yaarukkul Ingu Yaaro’? Yup, that's her.
Rajini is expected to appear as a prince of a country while Vijayalakshmi is a neighboring country’s princess. The graphics are all hyped to be very grand and catchy. With the biggest name in the industry acting and great graphics, the audio is of course not left out. It is worked on by the Golden Globe winner and Oscar nominated A.R.Rahman himself. He has tuned 6 songs for the movie and the entire sound track.
Wait up for this first ever graphical treat for us coming to a theater soon enough.

General elections to be held in April-May, says EC

The next general elections in India will take place in April-May, 2009, S Y Quraishi, Election Commissioner of India said in London.
"We, in the Election Commission, have not yet discussed the final dates, but it will be held between April 8 and May 15," Quraishi said after delivering a lecture on 'J and K Elections 2008', at the India House on Tuesday evening.
The Indian High Commissioner to the UK, Shiv Shanker Mukherjee, was present on the occasion.Narrating the problems faced by the Election Commission in holding the seven-phase elections for the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, Quraishi said the 61.5 per cent turnout despite adverse weather conditions justified their decision to go ahead with the poll, which was fair and transparent.
"The Indian Election Commission has the highest credibility," he asserted.General election in India is the largest electoral exercise in the world involving 671 million voters.Noting that India is the only country in the world to introduce the Electronic Voting Machines at such a large scale, he said the system has ensured that the "secrecy of vote is not compromised."Answering a question, he said the State Assembly Elections in Jammu and Kashmir were not linked to the Kashmir problem.
"It (the dispute) should be resolved through negotiations," he said.Quraishi said, "Our experience is that while the party in power is almost invariably unhappy with us, the opposition parties love us. But once the opposition party becomes the ruling party the roles get reversed."He said both the ruling and the opposition parties realise, especially when they are no longer in power, how much they stand to benefit from EC's interventions.

Age and weather hold no bar for Jayasuriya

Sanath Jayasuriya, whose 107 made him the oldest centurion in one-day internationals, says he is happy to be scoring runs for Sri Lanka but sidestepped discussion over his future. Asked whether he would continue till the 2011 World Cup, he said: "I don't know, let's see how it goes."
Jayasuriya, now 39 years and 212 days old, broke Geoffrey Boycott's record with his 28th century. Boycott was 39 years and 51 days when he scored a hundred against Australia in Sydney in 1979. Jayasuriya was unaware about the record, but nonetheless pleased to continue performing at the highest level.
"Although I am getting old, if I can get more runs on the board that's the key thing," he said. "I always want to play for my country and perform. Sometimes you don't play that well and when you play well you need to get more runs on the board. That's the goal I always think of whenever I get the opportunity."
Jayasuriya, named the Man of the Match, battled the hot conditions during the innings to record the second century at the venue. "I was struggling a bit today because it was very hot outside. What I wanted to do was bat for the first 10-15 overs and then carry on for a longer period which I did," he said. "The others batted around me and put some runs on the board."

During his innings, Jayasuriya went past 13,000 ODI runs, the first to reach the mark after Sachin Tendulkar. "You cannot think of records and play cricket, it is difficult. I am happy to have achieved the milestone. Had we won this contest I would have been happier."

1 killed, 2 attacked by stalkers

Jan. 27: A female degree student was brutally murdered in Karmanghat in the outskirts of the city and two other girls were attacked in Ongole and Anantapur by stalkers on Tuesday.
These incidents have occurred even as the gruesome acid attack on two girl students in Warangal and the gunning down of the stalkers by the police is still in public memory. In Karmanghat, police found the body of Gangula Swetha Reddy, 21, a native of Mahbubnagar district, lying in a pool of blood in her bedroom.
She had grievous head injuries and stab wounds on her abdomen. Cops recovered an iron rod and a beer bottle from the spot.Police suspects that the killer also attempted to rape Swetha, a final year degree student of Pragathi College, before killing her.Investigators feel that the murder was committed by a person who knew the girl.Swetha was staying in her elder sister’s house in Srinidhi Colony in Karmanghat.
Neighbours said she came back from college at 2.30 pm and was accompanied by a person who claimed to be her ‘brother’.After an hour neighbours heard some commotion from inside the house. It was Swetha’s brother, Kranthi Kumar Reddy, who found the body when he came in at 5.30 pm.Meanwhile, A. Sravanthi, a third year B-Tech student of the Malineni Lakshmaiah College of Engineering at Singarayakonda of Prakasam district, suffered serious injuries on her neck after she was attacked with a razor blade by a fellow student, K Himavanthkumar Reddy.According to students, Himavanth had proposed to Sravanthi a year ago but she turned down his advances.
After slashing the girl’s neck with the razor, Himavanth tried to jump off from the third floor of the college, but was overpowered by fellow students and handed over to the police. Sravanthi was injured on her neck and chin and was operated upon in Kotareddy hospital at Kandukur. In a similar incident in Anantapur, Bindu Bharati, a second year intermediate student of a private college, was attacked by two scooter-borne masked men on Tuesday.
It is learnt that based on a complaint lodged by Bindu two years ago, police had conducted counselling for a youth who was stalking her. Cops are investigating whether the youth was behind the attack on Bindu Bharati.

How safe are our nightclubs?

After witnessing helpless pub owners and bouncers stare in terror, as a mob barged into a pub in Mangalore and started assaulting girls, questions about how safe are these watering holes for clubbers arise. Do nightclubs in the city have adequate security measures in place?
Yes, claim all the club owners, as they explain in detail their security measures. “We have five bouncers doing the rounds inside the club and they are specifically instructed to show people who misbehave the door,” says Sanjay Mehta of Bottles and Chimneys.
“On Saturdays, we have at least 15 bouncers on duty. As a rule, we ask certain questions to any new face at our pub. And stags are a strict no-no,” reveals Sreekala Reddy, MD of Touch.
Ironically, all the frisking and screening that’s done in pubs is only to keep harmless pub-goers, who can’t be accused of anything more than perhaps getting into a drunken brawl, at bay. There seems to be no mechanism in place to counter a mob attack of any kind.
Pub owners however, feel beefy bouncers with a menacing look are enough to discourage troublemakers. “Our bouncers are alert and monitor the situation closely. As soon as something happens, the higher-ups are informed and the local police station is informed as well,” says B. Eshwar, of Poison.
However, didn’t the Mangalore lounge that was attacked have bouncers as well? Considering the fact that bouncers aren’t allowed to carry weapons on them, are they equipped to handle emergencies?
Proprietors like V. Surender, manager (Franchise Operations), 10 Downing Street think so. “their well-built physique is enough. Plus, guests are screened and they don’t carry arms,” he argues.
Strangely, nobody seems to be worried about the difference between people trying to get into a club to party and a mob wanting to cause trouble.
Cop advice
* Keep the rowdies involved in an argument at the entrance and inform the nearest police station.
* Either call up the cop station or else send a representative. the latter is a better option to ensure that cops can be impressed upon the urgency of the situation so that they accompany the pub representative at the earliest.
* Do not panic, it will only add to the existing chaos if guests start moving all over the place.
* Ensure a proper background check before appointing security personnel or bouncers.

GE buys discount, not Cisco

Jan. 27: General Electric, the largest client of Satyam Computers, has agreed to pay 40 per cent of its bill this month helping the crisis-ridden firm foot part of the sa-lary bill of its employees.A desperate Satyam is trying to mobilise money to pay its employees by offering discounts to clients who pay their dues promptly.Though GE was amenable to the Satyam offer, Cisco, another major client of Satyam in the United States, has indicated that it may not renew its contract with the firm after the end of this quarter in April.Satyam’s discount offer has amused many since it was known not to give up a penny while collecting bills from its clients. Now it has asked its group leaders to offer discounts of up to three per cent to clients to meet the targets. A client who makes full payment would be given the highest discount. With just three days left for the month to end, Satyam has set in motion the “discount scheme” to mobilise Rs 521 crore for payment of salaries.“It is discounts galore in Satyam, a company known for its cut-throat functioning,” said a sou-rce. “It has receivables of about Rs 1,700 crore. Apart from Rs 521 crore for the salary bill, it also requires another Rs 120 crore to meet operational expenses for a month.”The group leaders (also called business leaders) who directly interact with the clients have been directed to focus on receivables rather than new contracts.Apart from GE, other big clients such as Applied Materials, Selecta, Telstra, Malaysian Airlines and British Petroleum have also been lured with discounts.Bill payments had slowed down after Mr Ramalinga Raju’s confession about fudging accounts but they picked up in the third week of January.Outsourcing contracts worth around $500 million are up for renewal by Satyam customers this year.Cisco’s decision not to renew its contract has come as a major blow to Satyam. A major player in the networking business, Cisco has been Satyam’s client from 2003 and its annual bill comes to about Rs 400 crore. As many as 2,000 Satyam employees work in the Cisco account out of which 500 work on the site in California and North Carolina.A senior Satyam employee working in the offshore campus in California said there were signs that rivals Infosys and Wipro might take over the work given to Satyam so far. “Downsizing is bound to happen,” he pointed out.

Naidu all free, says Chiru

Jan. 27: The Praja Rajyam president, K. Chiranjeevi, on Tuesday joined the chorus of the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, by calling the Telugu Desam president, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu “All free Babu”.The PR president ridiculed the freebies announced by Mr Naidu during his election campaign and said they were not practical. He said even the combined Budget of India and the US would not be sufficient to implement all the promises made by Mr Naidu. While addressing the party’s district committees convention at Ravi Narayana Reddy auditorium in Hyderabad, Mr Chiranjeevi passed critical remarks against the Telugu Desam chief.“Unmindful of the amount of money needed to implement his promises, the TD chief is promising the moon to the common man only to grab power. Mr Naidu who threw the TD founder N.T. Rama Rao’s pro-poor policies to the wind during his nine-year rule as the Chief Minister is now again singing pro-poor tune in order to come back to power,” Chiranjeevi said. The PR chief said that apart from the Chief Minister, Mr Naidu was also responsible for the present Satyam scandal as Mr Ramalinga Raju was a blue-eyed boy during the erstwhile TD regime.Meanwhile, the PR leadership decided to take up a mass contact programme Gadapa Gadapaku Praja Rajyam (PR at every threshold) from Wednesday in every village across the state in order to prepare the cadre for the ensuing elections.During this programme, which will will go on till the elections, the PR leaders and workers will visit every house and try to persuade people about the PR policies and Chiranjeevi’s slogan of “change”.

Heritage scam, a sequel to Satyam scandal:rossiah

Jan. 27: The finance minister, Mr K. Rosaiah, and the government chief whip, Mr N. Kiran Kumar Reddy on Tuesday demanded an explanation from the Telugu Desam president, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu, on what they termed as a mega scam involving Heritage Infra owned by him in fraudulent deals to the tune of more than Rs 35 crore.Addressing the media they alleged that Heritage Foods, owned by Mr Naidu and his family, duped investors to the tune of Rs 35 crore. The fraud which involved fudging of profits even though the firm was running in losses, transfer of land to a real estate firm floated by Heritage owners was like a Satyam sequel.Though Heritage Foods incurred a loss of Rs 35.04 crore during 2007-08, the balance sheet of the company showed a profit of Rs 35.98 crore during the financial year, with net profit of Rs 94 lakh. The company showed a profit of Rs 33.65 crore it earned by selling its share in the real estate firm and Rs 2.33 crore it earned by selling lands of the real estate firm.Giving details of the scam, Mr Rosaiah said Heritage Foods floated a subsidiary company Heritage Infra Developers Limited on Feb 15, 2006 with a paid-up capital of Rs 40 lakh. Heritage Foods held 51 per cent in the company. In the balance sheet released in 2007, Heritage Infra stated the company had no activities during the year. Interestingly, Heritage Foods sold 20.4 lakh shares at the rate of Rs 179.99 a share in spite of doing no business.

Woman Gives Birth To Octuplets In California

A woman gave birth to eight babies in Southern California on Monday, the world's second live-born set of octuplets.
The mother, who was not identified, gave birth to six boys and two girls weighing between 1.8 pounds and 3.4 pounds, doctors at Kaiser Permanante hospital told The Associated Press.
"It's a surprise," Dr. Karen Maples said. "Eight newborns are in stable condition and they're doing quite well."
Kaiser spokeswoman Myra Suarez said she could not release any information about the mother, including her condition or whether she used fertility drugs. Such drugs make multiple births more likely.
"They are all doing the best they can," Suarez told the AP.
The first baby was born at 10:43 a.m.; the eighth one at 10:48 a.m.
"They were all screaming and kicking around very vigorously," Dr. Harold Henry told CBS station KCAL-TV in Los Angeles.
The first live-born octuplets were born in Houston in 1998, and one baby died about a week later. The surviving siblings - girls Ebuka, Gorom, Chidi, Chima and Echerem, and their brothers Ikem and Jioke - celebrated their 10th birthday in December.
Their Nigerian-born parents, Nkem Chukwu and Iyke Louis Udobi, said they are astonished and grateful that their children have grown up to be healthy and active kids who are now in the fourth grade.
Chukwu said the new parents have much to look forward to.
"Just enjoy it. It's a blessing, truly a blessing," Chukwu said. "We'll keep praying for them."
